On “PBS News Hour” the New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) slammed Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, self proclaimed ‘economic nationalist’, and god-father of the Alt-Right.
The governor appeared to spend much of the interview firing back at Bannon for the comments he made about Christie’s relationship with President Donald Trump.
On last Sunday’s “60 Minutes” with Charlie Rose, Bannon claimed that Christie was not considered for a role in the Administration due to the governor’s response to the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump detailed his tactics for sexually assaulting women.
The week the tape made headlines, Bannon said, “I told [Christie] the plane leaves at 11 o’clock in the morning. If you’re on the plane, you’re on the team.” Apparently Christie, “didn’t make the plane.”
Christie denied Bannon’s claims and told anchor Judy Woodruff that Bannon was not being truthful in how the events unfolded. “That conversation that Mr. Bannon references … never happened. I didn’t need to convey those kinds of feelings to staffers. I was speaking to the principal, to the man who’s now president of the United States.”
The governor claimed that he actually was offered a Cabinet position, but turned it down. He also blasted Bannon for attention seeking.
Christie goaded Bannon for being ousted from the White House “Now that he’s been fired, no one is really going to care about anything else Steve Bannon has to say,”
The White House said previously that Bannon’s departure was a “mutually agreed”.
The governor added “This, I suspect, is his last 15 minutes of fame … I hope he enjoys it.”
