In a recent 60 Minutes interview, Steve Bannon announced his new war on members of the GOP who aren’t ultra conservative or oppose Trump. Moderate Republicans have already begun tendering their resignations due to chaos in the GOP.
According to Politico, Bannon is “launching an all-out war against….McConnell and the Republican establishment.”
McConnell responded to Bannon’s threat by vowing to protect incumbent Senators. The Hill reports, McConnell stated, “We intend to play in primaries if there’s a clear choice between someone who can win in November and someone who can’t.”
Senator John Cornyn of Texas said, “I wish they would focus on Democrats instead of Republicans.” McConnell’s former chief of staff, Josh Holmes, spoke with Politico; he said, “The issue is: Do you invest your time and energy in attacking people who are carrying this president’s water in Congress to the benefit of people who are trying to impeach him? That seems like an incredibly short-sighted strategy.”
The Alabama primary is a battle between Bannon’s conservative and the GOP establishment. Bannon said it’s “a defining battle between the conservative base and the GOP establishment.” McConnell supports Senator Luther Strange and Bannon stands behind former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore. Who will win?
